The Brief

For this campaign for the 2023 FIBA World Cup we shot the Philippines national team also known as the Gilas. Sport & Motion assisted throughout the duration of the campaign with on set choreography & pre-production consultancy and creatives. Shot in Manila across two separate weeks, 2 months apart for two separate sets, the AV team (stills photography) and the KV team (motion) for its intended usage online, in stores and in billboards across the country. .For the AV production we were tasked to employ a deliberate composition and framing techniques, shooting the entirety of the campaign from a slight side-on perspective. We see the Gilas Men and Women athletes, alternating, together as one through a series of frame by frame action sequence. This composition will allow us to highlight the players' precise footwork, fluid dribbling, and explosive jumps, accentuating their athleticism and finesse. The slight side-on perspective will also create a sense of depth and dimension, immersing the viewers into the action as if they were right there on the court. For the KV production we take a closer look at the featured stars of the Gilas team covering a range of shots captured on set that hero individual changemakers and athletes. Our Creative Solution

In order to achieve on set gold you must first creative an environment where the athletes can feel comfortable and motivated enough to bring out their true characters and let their talents flow. Two things instantly became our main areas of focus. Athlete comfort and body posture & movement, sometimes easier said than done. Luckily for us our basketball choreographers are high level street ballers and freestylers with years of experience under their belt so we knew they were adequately covered for covering the most audacious captivating movements without making our stars feel out of place. Building a rapport and vibe on set was essential in translating character & authenticity on set. A day of rehearsal was a must so we were well prepared for any eventuality and being able to toggle quickly between the director /photographer & athletes meant we could work under pressure whilst being able to pay close attention to the details so nothing felt out of place nor missed in any way.

The Result

The campaign was released on Nike Basketball’s 15.9m strong Instagram page on the 25th August 2023 including in stores and on billboards across the Philippines ahead of the FIBA Basketball World Cup. Being the country most popular sport and a source of national pride this campaign lived up to the hype and then some. We captured images that evoked positivity and enthusiasm with candid and laughter moments in between takes. A range of expressive poses where they’re making use of their entire body and not looking too stiff, just doing what they do best! This campaign had it all, intense moments, authenticity, and uniting the people as they all readied for the 2023 FIBA World Cup. Win lose or draw this shoot was a great success covering so much detail across two sets put the Gilas up where they should be celebrated. Getting the most of every situation requires careful preparation and skills and we can’t think of any other team worthy!
